François Boucher's Merits and Demerits

When I want advice on creating artworks, I try to find the answer in books.

That said, it's not particularly difficult; it's a game where I intuitively choose a book, open it to a random page, point my finger, and see if I can learn something.

A little while ago, when I fell into a rut, I chose an encyclopaedia of the world's artists and pointed my finger. The first name that appeared was Francois Boucher.

The encyclopaedia described Boucher in modest but harsh terms, stating that “he was active as the father of Rococo, but in his later years his popularity declined to such an extent that his works became worthless”.

Furthermore, Professor Gottfried Baumann's book, which I refer to when studying art anatomy, also spoke critically of Boucher, stating that “art anatomy was not particularly necessary for painting lovely women”.

Was Boucher really so bad that he deserved such criticism?

Let me state my own conclusion!

‘Manga and anime... In other words, I feel a kind of flat, cute deformation that is very Eastern. So, from a realist point of view, he may be considered bad, but artistically, he's OK!’

Here, I would like to state my own opinion on art.
